EBRD invested in Romania almost 600 mil.euro in 2012

EBRD invested in Romania almost 600 million euro in 2012 by signing 26 projects according to the data sent by Olga Rosca, analyst at the financial institution. Since the beginning of the operations in Romania, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested over 6 billion euro in 331 projects.

At international level BERD financed last year a record number of projects, offering support to the countries where they invested, in an economic environment extremely difficult, the press release of the bank shows.

According to the preliminary estimates BERD invested last year 8.7 billion euro in its operational area, financing 388 individual projects, an unprecedented number.

In 2011, the volume of investments was 9 billion euro and the number of projects 380.

The bank estimates they obtained a net profit of almost one billion euro in 2012 against 173 million euro in 2011. Under these conditions BERD is well prepared to support the emerging economies this year, so that they are well prepared for economic recovery.

‘The economic conditions were very difficult in the majority of the countries where we invest. With a record number of investments, the bank proved once more that it is a serious partner. BERD will continue to help to a sustainable economic growth’ the BERD chairman Sir Suma Chakrabarti said.

Besides the investments in its traditional area, BERD got involved in 2012 in the south and the east of the Mediterranian, with sums of 181 million euro in six projects.

The bank started investments in Egypte, Marocco, Jordan and Tunisia to support the process of modernisation after the political changes in the Middle East and North Africa.

Up to 2015 BERD anticipates they will invest up to 2.5 billion euro per year in this new region.

In 2013 and the following years, BERD will concentrate on the financing of the projects which could prepare the way for the recovery and economic growth of the countries where they are present.
